Speaking of Kare-Kano (aka His and Circumstances) if anyone knows where I can find any fanfic for it e-mail me :) I'm desperatly searching for something that fills up those annoying loose ends.
Dr MM 9:28 PM
80's porno music? Okay, I can't say I've heard 80's porno music to tell ;)Oh! I watched the end of Kare-Kano (His and Her Circumstances) today. I want more but there isn't any. Why didn't they make more damnit! =(
Caroline 1:42 PM
I know you know what it means... it's just shocking to hear that word come from you!Argh! I want more KKJ! I just finished volume 3. It's growing on me. Say... anyone else notice how Sindbad's theme music sounds an awful lot like 80s porno music? Or is that just me....
Dr MM 12:30 AM
Masturbating: the process of having a sexual orgasm without a partner. I know this may shock you Caroline, but I do know what that means :) #alt-mmpr stole my pure mind.Oh, and you probably aren't the only ecchi fangirl . . . you're just the only one I know. :)
Friday, September 8, 2000Caroline 11:09 PM
Alright, why is that whenever anyone sees an anime character do something perverted, they think of me? Hmm? I can't be the only ecchi fangirl out there... ;)Wait... 'Chelle... did you just use the word 'masturbating'??? *mouth hangs open in surprise*
Dr MM 11:02 PM
I just saw the most bizzare magical girl anime I've ever seen at anime club tonight. It's called Jungle de Ikou and is um, well, perverted. I'm not going to go into the plot a whole lot 'cause there really isn't one, but I will say this. The costumes are terribly skimpy (like, worse than the dominatrix sailor stars costumes) and the transformations are done by doing a dance that looks like they're . . . well, masturbating.Caroline, you'd probably love it ;)
Caroline 11:01 PM
KKJ just keeps getting better and better. I want my own Fin Fish! She is just too cute.My list of 'kawaii' creatures keeps growing:
--Fin
--Mokona
--Ryo-ohki
--Nyan-nyan
--Pikachu
--PenPen
--Babbit
--a moon kitty
--Kero-chan
--ChuChu
--PiPi (well, maybe not)

Funny thing happened last night in my Information Science class. We were looking into search engines using Boolean logic and my prof decides to use the search term "saturn." She goes into this spiel about you get hits for cars, planets, and this sailor saturn character. She didn't know anything about Sailormoon, but our last search was an audio search. The first hit was for a Sailormoon music site and she downloads the American Sailormoon theme song so that class can see how it works. I almost died laughing and ofcourse my friend Melanie was making fun of me the whole time. It was just odd!
Dr MM 12:19 PM
Welcome. :) Hum, I suppose Chiaki is a bit like you. You're both perverted. . . ;)I have four episodes of Kare Kano left to go but I have anime club tonight so I might not be able to see them. The animation style is so -- odd in that series. Hard to believe it was done by the same studio as Evangelion and Giant Robo. I'm afraid that I'm going to be forced to buy copies when it comes out commercially. I want better copies . . . More of my money down the drain.
Thursday, September 7, 2000Caroline 10:28 PM
Hahah, thanks for the tapes Michelle! KKJ is too funny. Chiaki reminds me of me, sadly enough. I haven't started Basara yet but i'll get around to it.You know, I did have a point to this post but it has completely slipped my mind. Huh.
Dr MM 11:39 AM
Yeah, I blame my evil VCR entirely for the fact that I couldn't make you copies of the end of Basara. Gomen :( But, I'm terribly glad you can still keep blogging =) At least I'll have some sort of contact with you :)
Caroline 11:37 AM
*sniff* I don't want to leave! Maybe a miracle will happen between now and then.Anyway, yes Kris I bought Tokyo Babylon the other day. It was only $20 and Amazon sells it for close to $30 so I thought I'd snag it. The plot was really really good and I wish they had made more. I also want the manga now. Aren't I hopeless? ^_^ I think I can *cough* make a *cough* copy for you *cough*. But if course, that's illegal and I am a law abiding citizen. Do you need a copy of Karekano 5 still? I can whip out on of those if you need it. That's still legal... for now.
Michelle is sending me KKJ and part of Basara so I'll finally know what you girls are talking about. *sniff* Of course I'll probably have to kill her when I get halfway through and don't have the rest. I'll let you know.
I can keep blogging even if I do lose access I think. I'll just use the school's computer like I'm doing right now. ^_^ It's only a temporary hiatus!
Dr MM 11:36 AM
I've now seen through volume 4 of Kare-Kano. It's good. Although . . . that last volume or two rather depressed me. But still . . . I can't wait until I get a chance to see the rest.Kristen, what's Miracle Girls about? I know the name's familiar, but I know I haven't seen anything of it.
Dr MM 11:23 AM
Well, it looks like Caroline will be leaving us for a month or so until she gets a modem that works for her computer. =(
Wednesday, September 6, 2000Kristen C 9:56 AM
Michelle, if you like magical girls series then you HAVE to see Miracle Girls...my fav mgs of all time. I must say it took an act of god to get the fansubs since it is an older series. Luckily, I had connections! ;)Caro has Tokyo Babylon? Did you buy the dvd? I have the manga. You will have to let me borrow it when we get our dvd player! I wish we could still find the ones with the cheat codes where you can record from them!
I need to get a copy of v.5 of Karo Kano...any takers out there?
Tuesday, September 5, 2000Dr MM 10:43 PM
Yes, yes you need to watch Basara, Caroline. :) But, do you really think I like the magical girl anime the best? I'm not so sure. I don't think I have a favorite type of anime. I always thought my taste was pretty varied. Evangelion, Weiss Kruez, Flame of Recca and Mononoke Hime aren't shoujo by any means. The shoujo dramas (Marmalade Boy, Hana Yori Dango) I like although I can handle them in only limited doses. Kodomo no Omocha is shoujo, but not a drama or a magical girl show. Hum, I probably do like them better than Caro-chan and Kristen do. They can be fun :) By the way, I'm going to reccomend the Suddenly Princess OVA's as an awesome magical girl parody. It's a parody, but not one of the totally obvious parodies. It rather reminds me of how Spaceballs made fun of Star Wars.
And why the hell does blogger keep putting double spaces between my paragraphs? I put in the right codes.
Caroline 10:25 PM
Great. Now I suppose I need to watch Basara to understand what you girls are talking about. Oh well, I suppose if I must I can force myself. ^_^ I also need to get around to watching the end of Marmalade Boy. I think I got to about volume 10 or 11 before I quit. Hmm, Kris can you remember?I was just marveling about what a well rounded group we are. Kris likes the shoujo dramas best, Michelle the magical girl series, and me, shounen anime. This should lead to some interesting debates... er, discussions.
I watched Tokyo Babylon today. GOOD! Oh, I love CLAMP. And even though they did a piss-poor job of subtitling it (and it was a commercial DVD fer cryin' out loud!), it had a great story. And even a slight hint of yaoi content to make me happy. ^_^ Now if only the X movie would come out subtitled soon I'd be happy...
Dr MM 9:29 PM
I agree. Basara should have lasted longer than 13 episodes. I will admit that the animation isn't the best and the opening song is horrible (the ending one is cool) but the plot is amazing. I bought all 27 mangas (much money even if I did get them used) because I had seen the first seven episodes and it's the first anime/manga ever that I bought an artbook for. I wish I could read the mangas. While you get some details from the pictures, the words are still important. So, if you haven't seen this anime, watch it. :)
I also got copies of Kare-Kano (thanks Caro-chan!) today. I've watched seven episodes (of 26) so far and I adore it. Stupid homework that I have to do instead of watch more. . .
Oh, and since Kristen decided to do more with her list, I'm going to do so too.
Honorable mentions:
Initial D (car racing)
Sailor Moon (the best example of magical girls anime -- and the one that got me into anime in the first place)
Kamikazie Kaitou Jeanne
Hana Yori Dango
Saint Tail
Favorite anime item:
Card Captor Sakura deluxe clow card set :)
Kristen C 7:00 PM
Ok, am I the only one here who is upset about Legend of Basara's short life of just 13 episodes? Now come on, this is SUCH an incredible series (the manga has over 20 volumes and counting!) I just don't understand why such a well-rounded series is killed? Look at some of the crap anime out there that will never seem to die *cough cough dbz and pokemon cough cough*. I mean, this series has it all: romance, action, suspense, mystery, etc...very Fushigi Yuugiish if you ask me!
Dr MM 1:26 PM
I finally saw the end of Marmalade Boy yesterday. I watched volumes 17, 18 and 19. I must say, Yuu is a hottie. He's probably my second favorite anime male ever. The end of MB was hystarical though. I died laughing at the plot twist at the end. It was by far the most soap operaish of a soap opera style show. So if you want a good example of the shoujo high school romance (or you just like that style) give Marmalade Boy a shot. It's a rather long series but it's fun to watch (and make fun of upon occasion).

Hum, I haven't seen Brother, Dear Brother, Fancy Lala, Kare Kano (although Caro-chan's sending me some tapes) and Miracle Girls. I watched the first volume of To Heart and it bored me out of my mind (sorry Kristen!). It was so slow moving that I couldn't stand it. I liked both Hana Yori Dango and Marmalade Boy (which I just finished tonight about a year after I saw the first of it) but I can handle the soao opera high school romance anime only in limited doses, which is why they're not my favorites. The Glass Mask was okay....but not my fav. I adore both Basara and Kodomo no Omocha though.
And I agree with Caroline about not liking pointless violence in anime. Although, in my opinion, Dragonball Z's violence does have a point . . . it just gets lost among the excruciatingly repetitive fights. That's why I love Flame of Recca. Not only does Fuuko totally kick ass, the fighting has a point and isn't repetitive.
Caroline 9:16 PM
Hmm, I've only seen about five titles on Kristen's list. Unlike her, I'm not really into the shoujo dramas. Oh, I like them well enough but I prefer the action series. I guess that's why I like shounen anime so much. They tend to be more... violent? I LOVE action and adventure, so for me to really like a series, there has to be enough action to hold my interest. But it can't be mindless violence like Dragonball Z or Pokemon (not really violent but pointless battles). I need a plot to go along with the action scenes. And yes, Michelle, I am guilty of watching series with cute bishounen in them. It's one of the reasons I started watching Gundam Wing. BUT... after I got into it, I realized what a great story it was. Plus Gundam in its various incarnations has been around since the 70s. I wanted to see what it was like. Now that the earlier series have started to be released on video, I'll have to check it out. Then again, it may just be I love seeing a little boy on boy action. *cough* I'm such a hentai.
Kristen C 9:51 AM
I've seen all of the anime on Caro and Michelle's lists with the exception of Ai no Kusabi, GW, and Recca...not really my kind of anime. Here's my favs:1. Hana Yori Dango
2. Legend of Basara
3. The Glass Mask
4. Kare Kano
5. Kodomo no Omocha
6. Miracle Girls
7. Fancy Lala
8. To Heart
9. Brother, Dear Brother
10. Marmalade BoyHonorable Mentions:
Neighborhood Stories
Vampire Princess Miyu
Utena
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanna
LainMaybe I should have just made a top 15? It is REALLY hard to rank these as my interest changes all the time. Once I finish a series it usually falls by the wayside of my favorites. Maybe I should have already retired Marmalade Boy, but I feel kinda bad about it since I have a page for it and all.
I think I'll add something different, my top 10 fav manga!
1. Miracle Girls
2. Hana Yori Dango
3. Legend of Basara
4. Oniisama E Azioban
5. Hime-chan no Ribon
6. Wish
7. Kodomo no Omocha
8. Escaflowne (shoujo)
9. Clover
10. Utena (both series and movie manga)I probably collect manga more than fansubs at the moment, but it is getting harder and harder to find!
Favorite Artbook:
Sailormoon 1 (Just because you can't find it anymore.)Favorite Anime Item:
SMR Heart Locket (too rare to part with unlike ALL the rest of my SM stuff which I got rid of LONG ago!)I guess this is enough listing for now! =)

Two of Caro-chan's choices I haven't seen. Ai no Kusabi and Zetsuai and those are yaoi (gay men) which isn't my type of anime. Fushigi Yuugi I've only seen about twenty episodes of and according to her, it doesn't start getting really good until later. The other shows I've seen, and there are several we agree on (Card Captor Sakura, Evangelion, Weiß Kreuz and Lain). Caroline likes the Utena movie more than the Utena series, but I prefer the series. . .
Now the meaty subject. Shoujo or shonen? I do prefer shoujo to shonen, at least some of it. Shoujo anime has decent female characters, but with the exception of Flame of Recca (Fuuko kicks ass), most shonen has pathetically weak female characters, something I find extremely irritating. It's not the blood and gore in shonen anime that annoys me, it's the a) lack of plot and b) lack of female characters that I can't stand. I love Flame of Recca (basically a fighting anime) and Evangelion is probably one of the bloodiest anime's I've ever seen (note: if you don't like blood, never watch Beserk). And, unlike Caroline I don't watch an anime because it has bishonen in it (*cough* Gundam Wing). ;)
So what do I look for in an anime? 1. Plot, the most essential aspect for anything to interest me. 2. Decent characters (male or female -- although I like at least one decent female character a series) 3. Art. Hey, anime is an art form and unless an anime has an awesome plot (Legend of Basara, Hana Yori Dango) poor animation will turn me off in the first episode. 4. Music. The Vision of Escaflowne and Utena both have some of the most incredible music I've ever heard. Without the music Escaflowne wouldn't be nearly as good as it is.
So, that's what I think :)
